Panic! At The Disco: Prelim Task

1) Who did you work with and how did you manage the task between you?

I worked with Ellie, Zahra and Johnathan. We made sure that everybody was included in the acting as is evidenced by us all being in the video. Behind camera was similar as well with us all helping one another in some way as Ellie did a bulk of the editing but myself and Zahra both helped and took over in some places. Other task were similar where both me and Johnathan helped each other complete timings for the prelim as well as location shots.

2) How did you plan your sequence? What processes did you use?

We planned out sequence by mapping out the time it would take to complete one shot on the camera in comparison to how long the shot was shown in the actual music video which helped us hugely with timings.

3) What theories could you apply to the video you chose?

The theory of the male gaze can be applied by the way the cheerleaders are all dressed in proactive clothing.

4) What technology did you use to complete the task, and how did you use it?

We used Adobe Premiere Pro to edit and render our video and a CS6 HDR-CX180 camera to film our prelim task.

5) What factors did you have to take into account when planning, shooting and editing?
We had to acknowledge the fact that some scenes in the music video could not be replicated such as a bar on fire. So with this knowledge we used a green screen and adobe to create a background that suits the video better.

6) How successful was your music video copy? Please identify what worked well, and with hindsight, what would you improve/do differently? What did others say about your production?

Overall I believe that we were successful in creating a good prelim task especially considering the technicality that was need for some scenes. I think what went well was the usual dynamic in that we all work very well as a group and want to do the best we can. I would try and improve the time frame in which we had to make and edit our film as we were defiantly on a deadline. Others seemed to like our video and some of the people i talked with said it was the best they had seen.

7) What have you learnt from completing this task? Looking ahead, how will this learning be significant when completing your music video, do you think?

We found out ever bodies strengths and weakness when making a music video as some of us can act better while others are more gifted with camera work or editing and we will keep this in mind when making our video.

8) How does it compare with filming an opening to a film?

It is a lot more difficult as when filming another persons work you have little creative freedom so it is hard to film in such a way as you have to match it perfectly to their video.

9) What are your strengths and weaknesses as a group member?
My strengths I would say is directing our group. While my weakness is most likely not acting amazing.

10) Looking at the other group's videos which do you think were most successful and why?

The Kanye West prelim was my personal favourite as they matched the lip syncing almost perfectly as well as the outfits which made it more believable to watch and more like a real music video.
